Carpet is another type of flooring that can be successfully installed over ceramic tile. Instead of trying to fix it i decided to build a sliding barn door to go over the opening instead. Now it glides freely over the carpet and makes a statement in our family room. One problem we encountered after installing carpet over the tile floor was the pocket door to the bathroom.

Position a knee kicker about 1 inch away from the wall and push the teeth into the carpet. The friction underneath made it difficult to close. There is no reason that you cannot install carpet over tile floor and in fact there are a number of good reasons to consider doing exactly that. Carpet can be laid over tiles as a temporary measure for example for tenants wanting a warmer environment while preserving the original flooring.

In this case the carpet is simply applied over the tiles without nailing or glue kind of like a wall to wall rug. In some cases you can also install carpet tiles over existing wood tile or vinyl flooring so long as the existing flooring is no more than an inch thick. Depending on what type of carpet or padding is selected it will add some height to the floor. Before you can install carpet tiles you must prepare the existing floor.
