Place the seam tape under the exposed edges. Complete the seam by butting both sections of the carpet together while the adhesive is still wet allowing the carpet and cushion to make contact with the tape and seam sealer at the same time. Seal the unruly carpet edges with a seam sealer. As you move down the seam with the iron roll over the joined seam behind the iron using a seam roller to press the carpet edges into the tape adhesive and ensure they lie flat.
