One concern you might have with berber carpet is pilling or little fiber balls forming on the surface of the carpet. Removing them is not difficult but time consuming. Pilling also referred to as bobbles fuzzing shedding or hairs are very small bobs on top of fabric. Sometimes the vacuum cleaner cannot keep up with the amount of fluff coming from the pile.

Carpet matting and crushing this refers to the loss of pile thickness and the untwisting of the carpet fibers. To solve a pilling problem in carpet the pills need to be cut off carefully with sharp scissors. Experts recommend several methods to prevent pilling. Berber carpet is available in a wide range of fibers and nylon and wool fiber choices are the most highly recommended.

The fluff collects on the surface of the carpet. This fuzz on the surface of the pile is almost always carpet shedding which is a characteristic and it is not a defect unless other problems are found that make it a defect. To check for fuzzing which is not the same as fuzz from shedding look for long fibers that are sticking above the carpets pile face and not releasing from the yarn. Carpet pilling is a condition directly related to carpet shedding. This creates carpet with a rough and bumpy appearance. These are partly pulled fibers from the carpet that have clogged together to form a small ball of fibers that is stuck by a few fibers.
